Good Shepherd school
Glenmont UMC has been connected with a community in Zambia since 2004, thanks to GUMC member Jeanne Niebel's friendship with Mary, a Zambian woman who worked as a nanny for Jeanne's grandchildren. Jeanne traveled to Zambia in 2004 to meet Mary's family and to visit her hometown and came back with many ideas about how to broaden impact and deepen relationship with people there. Glenmont started an educational sponsorship program, through which 25 church members sponsored 52 children. They also sponsored a book drive and, with the help of a grant from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Education Foundation, sent enough books and funds to help build the large Ngombe Township Reading Center.

The Reading Center houses books and provides a comfortable place to read the books, and it is also the home base for the Good Shepherd School. Since 2012, individuals from the congregation and the GUMC Missions Committee have helped to support the school. Donations have made possible the building of a home for Headmaster Muchona and his family, two additional classrooms, and new toilets, as well as providing piped water, shelves, tables, chairs and desks.

If you would like to make a gift to the school to help cover monthly overhead costs, please make a check payable to Glenmont UMC and designate Good Shepherd School in the memo line.
